Are We Alone?

Enjoy a video conference with Professor Leslie Looney, Professor and Chair of the Astronomy Department at the University of Illinois.

Date / Time: Thursday, June 11, 2020 / 6:00 PM

About Professor Leslie Looney: Professor and Chair of the Astronomy Department at the University of Illinois, Leslie Looney is a radio astronomer studying the birth of young stars and planets and their evolution, and he also been teaching the well-known and well-liked course called Extraterrestrial Life at Illinois since 2004. With past experience launching Space Shuttles at NASA Kennedy Space Center, he has a broad connection with one of the remaining fundamental questions: Are we alone? In this Zoom discussion, he will examine the idea of extraterrestrial life from a scientific viewpoint, mostly an astronomical viewpoint. This will let us dive into the Fermi Paradox, which asks: Where are they? The natural consequence of which is the topic of UFOs, especially with recently released videos and statements from people in the government. He will explain why he believes ET life is common, but why UFOs are likely not ET phenomena.
